What is Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation?
Vocational Rehabilitation is a federally funded program provided by the U.S Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has received this grant for the past 15 years. Each grant received provides funding for five years. In 2015, TVR was awarded a five-year grant totaling $2,030,000, or $406,000 a year, to run through September 2020. However, due to the impacts of the pandemic, in 2020, the programs current grant cycle to extended for one year, and ends in September 2021. A renewal grant application has been submitted for the 2021 – 2026 cycle, and is pending.
Our main objective is to help people with disabilities integrate into the workforce, however, the disability must cause barriers and impediments to employment. This can be accomplished a number of ways and is tailored to the individual.
Our mission is “to assist American Indians with disabilities prepare for and engage in competitive and meaningful employment”.
We can help you reach your desired career by planning and organizing services necessary to assist you while you work to achieve your goal. Our counselors will help you develop an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). This is your plan to get from point A to point B- with B being the end result of being employed in the field you have chosen. The TVR team will help you with the development of your plan and put identified services in place that help you reach your goal. It is, however, the responsibility of the individual to put forth the necessary effort to complete each step of their plan to the best of their ability so that they can reach their goal. You will get out of this program what you choose to put into it.
Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation would like to assist you in securing the necessary resources to make your career aspirations a reality. It is important to understand that while we will guide and monitor you throughout the process, you are ultimately responsible to follow your steps and put in hard work and dedication toward your goals here within TVR. We do not give out jobs here, what we can do is assist you in preparing to enter the Labor Market by providing such services as resume workshops, cover letter workshops, interviewing techniques, time management and other workshops based on your level of need. We will assist in searching for job opportunities that are right for you but you as the individual will need to make the effort to apply for these jobs.
