Tribe’s Health Services Reports 55.6% NOT Vaccinated

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Health Services is continuing to urge Akwesasne residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves against the Delta variant. Health Services notes there are 4,386 community members, which represents 55.6% of eligible individuals, who still need protection from the more contagious and severe variant. To help make vaccinations more accessible, individuals can now request the COVID-19 vaccine during their scheduled medical appointments.

“Please be aware there is still a chance of the Delta variant and people shouldn’t take the lack of case reports as the Pandemic being over,” said SRMT Medical Director Dr. Benson Kelly. Dr. Kelly added, “Be careful—not reckless—and get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect yourself and your family.”

As of July 7th, the Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services reports that 7,257 total vaccinations have been administered. This includes 3,749 Primes, or first doses, provided to individuals of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. Additionally; 3,508 Boosters; or second doses, have been provided at the Wednesday Walk-in Vaccine Clinics. It represents a current vaccination rate of 44.4% under the Tribe’s jurisdiction, with 55.6% of eligible individuals ages 12 years or older still needing to be vaccinated.
