Tribal Hazard Mitigation Planning Meeting #2

AKWESASNE -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Office of Emergency Management and Safety welcomes community members to join them in developing a Tribal Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Mitigation Plan will help identify and prioritize actions to lessen the impacts of natural hazards and climate change in the Akwesasne community. Community participation is essential.

At the meeting, you will have an opportunity to contribute your ideas for making the Tribe more resilient to natural hazards; such as flooding, snowstorms, high winds, and extreme temperatures.

This plan is being developed by a Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee comprised of Tribal leaders and community stakeholders. Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC, a Northampton, MA-based firm, is leading this effort on behalf of the Tribe.

Once developed, the Tribal Hazard Mitigation Plan must be approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and tribally adopted to allow the Tribe to apply for pre- and post-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Grant Funds.
