Tribal EOC Issues New Year (Ohserase) Holiday COVID-19 Guidance to Local Businesses & Community

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is urging local businesses and community members to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The EOC is asking businesses to be more diligent by maintaining occupancy limits that ensure social distancing is possible and to enforce mask wearing of all patrons, with the mantra of “if you stand-up, mask-up.”

The EOC wants to remind everyone that visiting places where you do not know the vaccinations status of visitors and visiting places that do not enforce mask wearing or social distancing is the highest risk area for contracting the COVID-19 virus. It is the responsibility of everyone to follow the all safety guidance to keep our families and community protected.

Please remember while ringing in the new year to follow these safety protocols:

  • AVOID LARGE GATHERINGS: Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces.
  • STAY IN YOUR BUBBLE: Limit gatherings to individuals in your immediate bubble.
  • WEAR A MASK: Masks are mandatory in any public facilities and must be worn properly by covering your nose and mouth to help protect yourself and others.
  • SOCIAL DISTANCE: Stay 6 feet from others who don’t live with you.
  • WASH HANDS: Wash your hands often with soap and warm water and/or use hand sanitizer if soap and water not available.
  • STAY HOME WHEN SICK: Avoid visiting others and traveling if you are not feeling well.
  • GET TESTED: Get tested if you are symptomatic (showing symptoms)
  • IF YOU ARE EXPOSED: Quarantine and get tested at least 7 days following a suspected exposure.

Please be safe while celebrating this New Year. We want to see everybody healthy and happy in 2022!
