AKWESASNE -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Environment Division is glad to inform the community that the Solid Waste Transfer Station located at 179 County Route 43, Ft. Covington, NY is receiving upgrades to the facility. New tipping areas and a building are being constructed to facilitate efficiency and improve safety.
The facility will be an active construction site for the next year, with heavy equipment operations and increased truck traffic to and from the site. Signage is being put in place to warn motorists of trucks entering the highway. For their safety, the community is being asked to be aware of the increased traffic on the highway near the Transfer Station as well as the construction activity on site.
Regular Transfer Station operations will continue during construction and will be minimally impacted. The Transfer Station staff will monitor visitor safety during construction and will direct traffic and provide instructions accordingly. Visitors are not permitted in active construction zones that will be readily marked.
Hours of operation will not be affected. For more information, contact Russell Phillips, Operations Supervisor, at (518)358-4632.
