In response to the COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) Pandemic, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe continues to implement protective measures to ensure the ongoing health, safety and well-being of the Akwesasne community at-large. To follow are the latest measures and protocols we are taking in coordination with the SRMT Emergency Operation Center. TRAVEL PROTOCOL-- Due to mounting concern from community members regarding vacations and unnecessary travel, individuals must take after-travel precautions. Any individual, who does not exercise caution and travels, needs to self-isolate for 14 days at home. They must remain at home and avoid visiting or any further travel. If you traveled and begin showing symptoms, please call SRMT Community Outreach at (518) 358-341 Ext. 7130 for remote screening.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION - Have you been finically hit by the COVID-19 pandemic? The SRMT Food Distribution Program has opportunities available for participants to receive foods supplied by the USDA. Qualified applicants will be able to receive products such as cheese, canned vegetables, canned meats, powered milk and eggs, rice, peanut butter, canned juices, cereal, butter, frozen chicken and beef. If you are interested in applying, please call (518) 358-2272 ext. 2212 to setup an appointment. During this time the office, located at 416 State Route 37, will be open Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to accommodate community members who wish to apply. (Please call to arrange an appointment outside of those hours). Document requirements include verification of income, self-employment, residence, identity, and student financial assistance. Please contact the Food Distribution Program if you have any questions. They are here to help and to promote the general health and welfare of community members.
TRIBAL COURT--The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Court has shut down for employee and community health. Chief Judge Carrie Garrow has issued Administrative Orders for the Cease and Desist of the Court and an Order on Suspending Filing Requirements, Docket book Rules, and Postponing Scheduled Court Dates. TRIBAL CLERK--the Tribal Clerks Office will be open by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, commencing Thursday March 19, 2020 until Thursday April 16, 2020. Appointment times can be made for the hours of 8:00 a.m. though 12:00 p.m. and are limited to 2 people per appointment. At this time, we are not allowing any walk-ins so please call for an appointment at (518)358-2272 ext. 2191 or ext. 2183.
GENERATIONS PARK—To protect the ongoing health of our community members, Generations Park will be closed for all activities at 9:00pm each day. Parents are being reminded that children should not be left unattended. Video surveillance is in place at Generations Park and footage of all suspicious activity is shared with the Tribal Police Department. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we ensure that the health and safety of our community remains a priority. Please remember to practice social distancing at all times--maintain at least 6 feet distance.
OUTREACH - The WIC Program at Health Services is still open on Tuesdays and Thursdays to assist families! Please call first at (518) 358-3141.
FAMILY SUPPORT- For the health and safety of all residents and employees, all visitors to the SRMT Family Support IRA’s are suspended until further notice.
TRANSFER STATION - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Transfer Station is still open for regular hours. Beginning on Monday, March 23rd the Transfer Station will operate on reduced days. They will be open to the public on Monday/Tuesday & Friday/Saturday from 7:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
