AKWESASNE—The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and Franklin County have amended their Settlement Agreement to resolve issues regarding tribal member refunds. The result is an approved Vehicle Tax Refund Claim Form that Tribal Members can use to claim refunds of vehicle taxes paid over the past 10 years (January 2, 2014 to January 2, 2024). The Claim Form, available online at the Tribe’s Website or the SRMT Tribal Clerk’s Office, is self-explanatory and requires the following:
- A Certificate from the Tribal Clerk that the applicant is an enrolled tribal member and has resided on the Reservation during the period for which the refund is sought.
- Information on each vehicle for which the refund is being claimed, including the License Plate number and where the car was garaged at the time.
- The Claim form has space for claiming five vehicles but no limit to how many can be claimed.
