Akwesasne Streetlight Installations Commence

In January 2018, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Planning and Infrastructure Department sought input from Akwesasne residents on a proposed plan to improve public safety through the installation of streetlights in the southern portion of the community. On October 4, 2018, National Grid began installing LED streetlights at five (5) of the 31 locations identified along Route 37, with more to be placed on secondary roadways over the coming months. Pictured is a new LED streetlight resting at the intersection of Route 37 and Library Road prior to being raised into place by a National Grid worker on Monday, October 22nd. National Grid is installing the streetlights at no expense, with the annual cost for electricity to be paid by the Tribe. A map of the locations identified by community members that will receive a an LED streetlight is viewable on the Tribe’s website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.
