Tribal Community Services Building Nearing Completion

AKWESASNE — (Onerahtohkó:wa/May 15, 2024) In September of 2022, Tribal government began the renovation of a deteriorated Tribal asset to transform a vacant building into a modern and professional workspace to benefit over 200 dedicated staff members, and the community members they serve.

Work is nearing completion and several Tribal Divisions and programs will begin moving into their new space toward the end of June. The moving process will take place over the course of four weeks.

The Kanienkeha (Mohawk) name for the Community Services Building is Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon – We work together and help each other.

Tribal Divisions and Programs relocating to Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon include:

  • Environment Division
  • Compliance Division
  • Economic Development Division
  • Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Program
  • Food Distribution
  • Social Services Division
  • Community & Family Services Administration
  • Akwesasne TV
  • Emergency Management and Safety
  • Security
  • Corporate Compliance
  • Homeowners Assistance Fund Program; and
  • Satellite offices for Facilities and Maintenance, and Technical Support

The judicial branch of the Tribal government, represented by the Tribal Court, is also moving to Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon. The renovation includes a business incubator next to the Economic Development Division Offices and additional shared space for staff and public meetings.


A community open-house will be announced after all programs have completed their transition to the new space and the parking lot resurfacing is completed.

The renovation is made possible through federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) stimulus funds provided by the U.S. Treasury.
