AKWESASNE — An air quality alert is in effect until midnight tonight. Air quality levels are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for particulate matter due to smoke from the Alberta, QC. forest fires. There is also a low probability that wildfire smoke near the surface leads to adverse health effects to sensitive populations today through the night.
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) Office of Emergency Management and Safety (OEMS) recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. Those who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
Individuals with these or similar health issues with concerns should consider consulting their personal physician. For more information please call OEMS at (518) 358-2272.
