AKWESASNE— The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe invites tribal members to attend a community consultation meeting as part of the 2020 tribal operating budget process. Community input on the 2020 calendar year budget is being sought at this special meeting scheduled for Ohiarí:ha/July 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ionkwakiohkwaróron Tribal Administration Building.
“The July 30th meeting is not a requirement of the 2013 Tribal Procedures Act however, consulting and obtaining input from membership on the community’s funding priorities continues to be an important part of the Tribe’s budgeting process,” said Executive Director Tsiorasa Barreiro. “It represents the fourth consecutive year that a consultation meeting is being held to give community members the opportunity to help develop the Tribe’s annual operating budget,” noted Barreiro.
The 2020 Annual Tribal Budget has NOT been developed at this time; the purpose of the meeting is to gain input from membership on the organization’s operating budget prior to its development. Tribal members are encouraged to share ideas related to funding priorities, improving revenues, operating efficiencies, program enhancements and the budget process itself.
In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act, the resulting Draft 2020 Annual Tribal Budget will be presented at a public meeting to be held no later than Kentenhkó:wa/November 15, 2019. The public presentation will be followed by a fifteen (15) day comment period for tribal members to provide written comments and concerns about the Annual Budget.
If any written responses are received during the comment period, a second public meeting will be held for the Tribal Council to respond; prior to its acceptance and implementation for the coming fiscal year. The dates and times for the public meetings will be announced once finalized.
