Tribal Council Donates $5,000 to Akwesasne Holiday Helpers

AKWESASNE -- On Kenténha /October 28, 2016 the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council donated $5,000 to Akwesasne Holiday Helpers to help kickoff this year’s annual fundraising event. They are hoping to match last year’s total of $60,251.09 that provided a happy holiday season for more than 1,000 Akwesasne families with a food basket and toys for children. This year’s toy drop-off and fundraiser will be held on Tsiothórhrha/December 9, 2016 at the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department’s Station #1. Participating in the check presentation were (from left) Sub-Chief Shelley Jacobs, Gloria Herne, Sub-Chief Cheryl Jacobs, Jill Benedict, Lori Thompson, Matt Rourke, Starr Thomas, Chief Ron LaFrance, Sub-Chief Michael Conners and Chief Beverly Cook.
