Notice of Public Meetings - Governance Ordinance

Jan 30, 2013

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council is in the process of drafting a Tribal Governance Ordinance. This Ordinance would replace the “Act relating to Tribal Council Powers, Procedures, Initiative Referendum, Recall and Removal from Office” commonly referred to as the 1994 Procedures Act. The Ordinance makes it much less burdensome for Members to initiate petitions to enact laws, reject laws and place questions before the membership in a referendum process. The Ordinance also makes Tribal Council’s actions more transparent by requiring the council to conduct its business through regular meetings open to the membership. In addition, the Ordinance establishes a process for Members to review Tribal budgets and access to public Tribal records.

Three (3) public meetings are scheduled for Tuesday February 12, 19 and 26 at 5:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Tribal Community Building. Comments and feedback from tribal members is greatly appreciated.
