Summary: The Publications Manager is key in shaping the visual and written identity of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, focusing on design, publications, and tribal Campaigns. Working closely with the Director of Communications, this role involves producing high-quality publications, managing digital platforms such as the SRMT website and associated social media accounts, and crafting compelling designs for Tribal Campaigns, advertisements, and the quarterly Kawennios magazine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce visually appealing publications, including a quarterly magazine highlighting tribal culture, initiatives, and community stories.
  • Develop engaging designs and visuals for tribal campaigns, events, and promotional materials across various media platforms.
  • Collaborate with division directors and program managers to translate complex information into visually appealing and accessible formats for publication.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of promotional campaigns, integrating design elements seamlessly across print and digital platforms.
  • Maintain and enhance the visual identity of the tribe across all communication channels, ensuring consistency and alignment with tribal branding guidelines.
  • Oversee the production process for publications and promotional materials, from concept development to printing and distribution.
  • Capture and edit photographic content at tribal events for use in publications and promotional materials.
  • Manage the tribal website and social media platforms, incorporating visually engaging designs and graphics to effectively communicate with community members and the public.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and printers to ensure the quality and timely delivery of design and publication projects.
  • Stay updated on design trends, software tools, and best practices to continually enhance the tribe's visual communication efforts.

  • Assists with maintaining and expanding tribal presence on assorted social media platforms, including responding to questions and general concerns to online comments.
  • Assists with coordinating special events, conferences, press conferences, and tribal meetings.
  • Assists in maintaining the integrity and security of the tribal website and social media platforms, with attention to the Tribal Members Portal.
  • Represents the Communications Department in the absence of the director.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists in supervising Communications Summer Intern staff in the absence of the Director.

The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, often under tight timelines and rolling deadlines.

  • Must be self-motivated, possess strong organizational and writing skills, computer skills,
  • Expertise in design software Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. Comfortable using minor design software programs such as Canva and templates.
  • Strong portfolio that showcases a solid understanding of design and typography principles, including color accessibility and layout design.
  • Experience designing with a brand guideline.
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.
  • Must have experience with publications and production, layout and design experience, experience with content management systems for the web, editing skills, and be able to work in a team-oriented environment.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED AND
  • Five (5) years’ work experience.

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Design Technology AND
  • One (1) year of professional experience, demonstrating competency and capabilities as Preferred.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively articulate design ideas tribe wide.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of daily situations.
