SUMMARY: Responsible for performing on-site internal audit testing and reviewing operational adherence of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s divisions and programs to applicable Tribal, Federal, State and/or agency policies and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Aid the Corporate Compliance Officer in completion and implementation of the internal audit program.

· Develops and seeks approval of the annual Internal Audit Plan (IAP).

· Conducts internal audit testing and identify reportable issues and dimension of risk.

· Through internal audits, determine compliance with policies and procedures.

· Evaluate and review the External Audits of the Tribe and follows up and ensure changes and corrective action plans have been implemented to minimize additional audit findings.

· Plan, program, direct and undertake risk-based audit assignments.

· Develop new and innovative auditing processes to improve the efficiency of the auditing process.

· Ascertain the reliability of information systems and ensure that all systems examined comply with relevant regulations, accounting principles, appropriate financial controls, and Tribal policies and procedures.

· Generate reports that identify irregularities to management.

· Transfer any identified waste, fraud and/or abuse to the Corporate Compliance Officer.

· Review and appraise the soundness, adequacy, effectiveness of financial and operational controls.

· Where necessary, provide technical assistance to finance/accounting staff.

· Evaluate data compiled during audit projects and prepares written reports.

· Verbally communicate findings to senior management, Corporate Compliance Officer and/or Tribal Council and draft comprehensive and complete report of audit area.

· Able to work with various divisions and programs in a professional and courteous manner.

· Exhibits a friendly, helpful and courteous manner when dealing with Community Members and co-workers.

· Conduct internal audits at various worksites.

· Presents at various meetings and orientation regarding the Internal Audit Program and Internal Auditor Reports

· Other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field OR

· Equivalent years of related experience.

Preferred

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Experience writing and implementing work plans and completing required reporting and auditing for grant-funded programs; understanding Medicare/Medicaid compliance issues; strong analytical, written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills; systems knowledge and familiarity; and ability to adapt to change quickly and multi-task. Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office software, ability to concentrate in fast paced, heads down environment, excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be willing to work varied hours as required. Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
