SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Mental Health Services Director, the Clinical Lead Mental Health therapist, requiring advanced degrees and licensure, will provide individuals and their families with counseling/psychotherapy services to promote optimum mental health and supervise the other Mental Health Therapists. 

The Clinical Lead Mental Health Therapist will work within the guidelines of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Mental Health Services policies and procedures, internal control standards, New York State Office of Mental Health regulations and standards of care by performing the following duties: 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

  • Exhibit a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with clients, fellow employees and associates. 
  • Primary function is to direct psychotherapy or counseling to individuals and their families through individual, play, conjoint, family and group therapy via in person and telehealth modality. 
  • Interviews and assesses clients and their families regarding their mental health needs. 
  • Provide some select school and community programs consultation as need and availability allows. 
  • Provide case management as necessary. 
  • Monitors, evaluates, and records client progress according to measurable goals described in their treatment plans. 
  • Meets and consults with other members of the mental health treatment team, grant staff, and other service providers, including school personnel. 
  • Refers client and their families to community resources to assist in their recovery and to provide advocacy. 
  • Documenting client contact in RPMS Behavioral Health electronic record according to NYSOMH standards of care. 
  • Provide guidance to clinicians regarding documentation of client care. 
  • Provide clinical supervision on a weekly basis to MH Therapists. 
  • Assist MH Director with orientation and on-boarding of new staff. 
  • Assist MH Director with development of policies, procedures and work flows. 
  • Ensuring staff are trained and knowledgeable regarding policies, procedures and work flows. 
  • Attend weekly Peer Supervision. 
  • Provide after-hours telehealth crisis services on a rotating basis. 
  • Work with Mental Health Director to ensure clinical services are delivered in an effective, culturally competent and trauma informed/responsive manner. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide clinical and administrative supervision of therapists and at times, the Clinical Lead Mental Health Therapist may have to take on supervisor duties when the MH Director is not available. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of mental health counseling/psychotherapy. To perform his job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • Masters in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling, New York State Licensure as an LCSW or as an LMHC. Preferred LCSW to supervise LMSW-level providers; AND 
  • One (1) year experience as a licensed professional working in a behavioral health setting; AND.  
  • One (1) experience supervising students, interns, limited-permit professionals, and/or licensed professionals; AND 
  • Six (6) months experience balancing a case-load and supervisory duties.  

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have good computer skills including, Word, and ability to navigate various scheduling and electronic health record programs. Computer testing in the applicable skills may be a requirement during the interview process. Openness in working with traditional/spiritual approaches regarding behavioral health issues. Ability to do presentations, represent the mental health program and connect with people. Familiarity with Akwesasne Community, preferred. Interest in obtaining additional training/education in Behavioral Health. 

 

REASONING ABILITY: Maturity and ability to handle delicate role issues and to respond to crisis.  

Possession of a valid Driver License in accordance with Fleet Policy.
