Summary: Under the direction of the Air Quality Program Manager, the Air Quality Technician is responsible for program continuity of field sampling, maintaining log books, tabulating data, working with spreadsheets and all aspects of indoor air sampling and monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Collect and submit environmental samples for shipment/analysis
  • Perform Indoor Air Quality assessments as required
  • Collect samples for testing and analysis
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance
  • Educate Community at outreach events
    • On open burning and burn permit applications
    • On Air Quality issues

Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Ability to work with in small environments. Accessing and traversing structural crawl spaces (tight spaces with insects, pests, etc.) such as attics, basements, etc.
  • The ability to collect indoor/outdoor samples of air, soil, water, and other materials for laboratory analysis
  • The ability to clearly label, track, and ensure the integrity of samples being transported to the laboratory
  • Ability to properly use required PPE (face masks, safety glasses, disposable coveralls, gloves)
  • Ability to calibrate and maintain various types of air sampling/monitoring equipment
  • Ability to use a light microscope to evaluate and analyze samples for the presence of pollutants or other contaminants
  • Be able to walk over uneven ground
  • The ability to come up with unique solutions for problem solving
  • Be willing to travel (fly or drive) during the workweek for trainings in different locations of the country
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Be able to work in a team environment
  • Be able to collect samples on weekends and holidays as requested

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent with environmental awareness.
  • Experience with AQI basics an asset.

  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Prepare charts and reports that summarize test results/recommendations

  • Written Expression- The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
