The Tribal Ethics Office enforces the Tribal Ethics Ordinance which was adopted by a Community Rederendum in Ohiari:ha/June 2007.
The Ordinance is a formal working guideline for the conduct of tribal business, protects the interests of Tribal members and protects the reputation and integrity of Tribal Government. The Ordinance established a set of standards and procedures which hold the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council and Tribal Clerk accountable to the community.
The Tribal Ethics Office is located wihtin the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police building and shares offices with the Tribal Courts. The Ethics Officer position, held by Ed Smoke, was designed to be a part-time position and the office is not staffed on a daily basis.
