AKWESASNE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB HOST BLACK TIE EVENT TO RISE NEEDED FUNDS

June 22nd Fundraiser Also Includes Radio Thon, Pancake Breakfast, and Lasagna Lunch

Akwesasne – The Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club invites the community to participate in any one of their fundraising events scheduled for Thursday, June 22nd. The day will kick-off with a pancake breakfast followed by a lasagna lunch, with King Enterprises hosting a black tie affair at the former TVI Building .

“The Club is a precious gift to the kids of Akwesasne and the North Country area but I may have to recommend to the Board of Directors that in order to save money in our 2006 budget we need to close for the summer. This would insure the club’s long term financial health,” said Executive Director Denise White. She added, “Many people have advised me that a fundraising campaign would help ensure members have a positive place during the summer months.”

The Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club is a chartered organization that is not required to stay open during the summer months. The Club would like to keep their doors open to offer a safe and positive environment for its members. This year’s summer program is estimated to cost $40,000 and is not includes in their annual budget.

The fundraising event on June 22nd will begin at the Boys and Girls Club with a pancake breakfast at 6:00am followed, by lasagna lunch from11am to 2pm . The cost of the breakfast is $5.00 and lunch will be $7.00.

The Black Tie Event will be held at the former TVI Building and is set to begin at 6:30pm with a surf and turf dinner. Entertainment will be provided by the Dirty Blues Project with the headline comedians James and Ernie, who hosted the 2006 NAMMY. Tickets for this event are $165 per person or $300 per couple and are available at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club, the former TVI Building , or by calling 518-358-9911.

“The Boys and Girls Club is a valuable resource for our youth,” said Chief Barbara Lazore, “This fundraiser gives the community an opportunity to supports them in their efforts to ensure our youth are provided with a place to go after school and during the summer.”

The success of this fundraiser would offset the increasing cost and help keep the Club open this summer. The students and faculty at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club encourage everyone to participate in any one of their fundraising events on June 22nd.
