The current St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Court has been adjudicating traffic offenses and civil offenses since December 2000. These offenses are punishable within the context that by nature are civil penalties, not criminal. The judicial caseload is primarily traffic offenses and civil offenses that affect the peace, well being and safety of the Akwesasne community

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Court is developing a judicial system that will incorporate traditional cultural values of the Akwesasneronon community. The mission is to develop a judicial system supported and created by the community, based on the needs of this community. The long-term goal is to implement further expansion of a native judicial system that works not only for this community, but allows the judicial system to work along side of and collaboratively with outside agencies of law enforcement and judicial system.
