"PROMOTING SOVEREIGNTY,
PROTECTING THE PEOPLE"
The role of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department has transformed
from that of serving not only our community but securing national interests
as well.
Our strategic geographic location has made Akwesasne an easy target for
criminal organizations to exploit our community. The impacts of smuggling
operations involving illegal immigrants, drugs, firearms and other commodities
have been significant and far-reaching. The Integrated Border Enforcement
Team (IBET) is a multi-agency law enforcement team that emphasizes a unified
approach to United States and Canadian efforts to target cross-border crime.
The goal of the IBET is to help protect both countries and our community
from potential terrorism and other cross-border crime.
With growing support from the surrounding law enforcement agencies and both
U.S. and Canadian governments, we will see dramatic improvements in the
war against drugs.
We have forged a solid relationship with our Mohawk counter-parts. We share
radio communications, conduct joint investigations, provide mutual assistance
when required and most importantly, provide our people with a first line
of defense that is second to none.
The goal of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department is to fulfill
our obligation to provide a safe community for the Mohawks of Akwesasne.
We will strive to maintain professionalism and integrity throughout our
law enforcement careers and throughout our daily business as Akwesasro:nons.
